Morris named Region 8 AP of the Year

Atlanta High School Assistant Principal Joel Morris has been named the Region 8 Assistant Principal of the Year, an honor recognizing outstanding campus leadership and dedication to students, staff, and the school community.
Morris has devoted 26 years to education, serving students at Atlanta ISD, Queen City ISD, and Maud ISD. Throughout his career, he has taught physical education, U.S. history, world history, world geography, and government and economics. He became the assistant principal at Atlanta High School in 2021.

For Morris, the most rewarding part of his role is helping students navigate life's challenges and develop skills that extend beyond the classroom.
"As an administrator, I have the opportunity to help students develop the skills they need to navigate real-world situations," Morris said. "Much of that involves teaching conflict resolution, accountability, and effective decision-making. I enjoy working with students to understand challenges, learn from their experiences, and move forward in a positive direction. One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is being able to support students in all areas of school life, whether in the classroom, extracurricular activities, or athletic programs."
Morris said receiving the regional honor is a reflection of the many educators and mentors who have invested in him throughout his career.
"I am truly humbled by this recognition because so many people have contributed to my growth as an educator and administrator," he said. "Nancy Rinehart, Sydney Harrist, and Jason Harris have each played an important role in mentoring me and helping me develop the skills necessary for this position. I share this honor with them, as well as with Atlanta ISD and the outstanding teachers and staff who make our success possible every day."
Former Atlanta High School Principal Nancy Rinehart said Morris has played a critical role in the campus's success through his commitment to students and strong relationships with staff.
"Joel is one of the hardest-working educators I've had the privilege of working alongside," Rinehart said. "He builds meaningful relationships with both students and teachers and always puts students' needs first. Much of what he does happens behind the scenes, and many people never see the countless hours he invests to ensure things run smoothly. He was instrumental in helping lead a successful campus, and this recognition is well deserved."
Atlanta ISD Superintendent Jason Harris said Morris exemplifies the qualities of an outstanding educational leader.
"Mr. Morris leads with integrity, compassion, and a genuine commitment to students," Harris said. "He has earned the respect of students, staff, and families through his consistent leadership and willingness to serve wherever needed. This honor reflects the positive impact he has made on Atlanta High School and the countless lives he has influenced throughout his career. We are incredibly proud to have him representing Atlanta ISD as the Region 8 Assistant Principal of the Year."
