AISD Names New Assistant Principal of Atlanta Middle School

Atlanta ISD is pleased to announce that Heather Phillips has been selected as the new Assistant Principal of Atlanta Middle School.
Phillips brings 21 years of experience in education and a strong background in instructional leadership, student support, and campus administration. She most recently served as assistant principal at Liberty-Eylau Middle School and previously spent 19 years in Texarkana ISD serving in a variety of roles, including instructional coach, math interventionist, ESL teacher, dyslexia teacher, and classroom teacher. Her experience spans elementary and middle school settings, with a strong emphasis on mathematics, science, relationship-building, and supporting teachers and students.
Phillips earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, a Master of Science in Education, and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Texas A&M University–Texarkana.
Phillips said she is excited to become part of the Atlanta ISD community and contribute to the district’s tradition of excellence.
“I am excited to be part of such a tight-knit community,” Phillips said. “Atlanta has a reputation for excellence while providing different pathways for every child to shine. I am looking forward to immersing myself in the Atlanta Rabbit culture and working alongside the dedicated staff, families, and community members who make this district special.”
Building meaningful relationships with students, staff, and families is a priority for Phillips as she begins her new role.
“Getting to know students and staff beyond the surface level is very important to me,” Phillips said. “I want our students, families, and staff to experience a partnership built on genuine support and empowerment. My goal is for every student and staff member to feel secure, celebrated, and challenged to reach their highest potential every day.”
Superintendent Jason Harris said Phillips brings valuable experience and perspective to the Atlanta Middle School leadership team.
“Mrs. Phillips brings a wealth of experience from both the classroom and campus leadership roles,” Harris said. “Her background as a teacher, instructional leader, and middle school assistant principal gives her a well-rounded perspective on meeting the needs of students and supporting educators. She is a relationship-focused leader with the right balance of professionalism, experience, and care for students, and we are excited to welcome her to Atlanta ISD.”
