Carter named Region 8 AP of the year

Nate Carter, Assistant Principal of Atlanta High School, has been named the Region 8 High School Assistant Principal of the Year.

“I am thankful to have such a great team to work with,” Carter said. “I feel like this is everybody’s award because we all work together to do what we can to help the kids in any way we can.”

Carter has been an integral part of Atlanta High School since assuming the role of assistant principal in July 2020, and his passion for working with the students has only grown stronger.

“When you have your worst days as an administrator, something about stepping away from it by going out into the halls or into the cafeteria and laughing and enjoying the kids just reminds you of why you're in education,” Carter said. “It reminds you that the job you do has an impact on children and their lives.”

Education runs deep in Carter's family, which makes this accomplishment even more meaningful to him.

“It means a lot to know that my parents are proud of this accomplishment and the things that I've done,” Carter said. “I'm thankful I had parents who pushed education and raised me into who I am and for my wife who has always been a source of support.”

A recognition ceremony will take place at the Josten’s Night of the Stars dinner during the 2024 Texas Association of Secondary School Principals summer workshop.

“Mr. Carter is an excellent example of ‘Atlanta pride,’” Superintendent Jason Harris said. “He graduated from Atlanta High School and found his way back, proving that when we ‘grow our own,’ we find leaders who understand the school culture and are committed to ensuring that current students have a quality education and high school experience.”
