Alumni Awards Reception

Atlanta ISD and the Atlanta Education Foundation Alumni Association invites the community to help celebrate our distinguished Alumni at its annual Alumni Awards Reception.  The reception begins at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017 at the Atlanta Administration Building, 106 W. Main St., Atlanta, TX.  Everyone is invited to join us in recognizing their accomplishments and celebrating their connection with Atlanta ISD.
 

Following is a look at the recipients.

Distinguished Alumni, Max Sandlin
Max Sandlin graduated from Atlanta High School with honors in 1971.  He went on to further his education by graduating with a BA from Baylor University in 1975 and later receiving a doctor of jurisprudence from Baylor Law School in 1978.  In 1996, Max was elected to represent the First Congressional District of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives where he served from 1997 to 2005.  Currently, Max is general counsel for a public affairs company in Washington, DC.

Distinguished Alumni, Carol Ann Clements
Carol Ann Clements graduated from Atlanta High School in 1993.  After graduating from AHS, Carol attended Southern Methodist University, where she graduated with honors in 1997 with a BS in Management Science Engineering and a BA in Mathematics.  Upon graduation from SMU, Carol began her professional career with PriceWaterhouse Coopers Consulting.  She continued her career with Southwest Airlines in the technology department.  Currently she serves as the Chief Information Officer for Pizza Hut.

Distinguished Alumni, Robert Andrew “Drew” Stubbs
Robert Andrew “Drew” Stubbs graduated from Atlanta High School in 2003.   After graduating from AHS, Drew accepted a baseball scholarship with the University of Texas.  There he was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year in 2004, and Big 12 Player of the Year in 2006.  Later, Stubbs was drafted as the 8th overall pick in 2006 by the Cincinnati Reds.  He made his major league debut in 2009 and has been a professional baseball player for twelve years.  Drew is currently a free agent, and during his career has played for the Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians, Colorado Rockies, Atlanta Braves, Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles and the San Francisco Giants.

Distinguished Service Award, Gus Schuhmann
Gus Schuhmann is the Atlanta Education Foundation’s 2017 recipient of the Distinguished Service Award.  He retired in 2004 from Atlanta ISD after serving forty-six years in education as a teacher and principal.  Since May 2008, Schuhmann has served on the Board of Trustees of Atlanta ISD where he is still shaping the future of our students and school district.  Schuhmann believes that education was the most rewarding career he could have dreamed of which makes him an outstanding example of distinguished service to Atlanta ISD.
