Two AISD principals selected as finalists for state award

Two principals from Atlanta Independent School District have been named as top finalists for principal of the year by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals.

Atlanta High School Principal Nancy Rinehart is one of four finalists for Texas High School Principal of the Year, and Atlanta Middle School Principal Colby Boyce is one of three finalists for Texas Middle School Principal of the Year.

Rinehart’s career in education spans more than 34 years with 24 of those in Atlanta ISD. She has been principal of AHS for 10 years and was assistant principal for five years. She taught English at AHS prior to becoming the assistant principal. She has also taught in Hawaii, Missouri and Kansas. She received her bachelor’s degree from Missouri Southern State University and a master’s degree from Texas A&M University-Texarkana. Rinehart was chosen as the Region 8 High School Principal of the Year in May.

“The success we’ve had at Atlanta High School is the result of a team effort,” Rinehart said. “I have a great staff, great students and great community support. We are dedicated to serving our students every day to make sure that they receive a quality education. I have to share this honor with everyone who ensures that great things happen every day at AHS.”

Boyce has started his 16th year in education where he coached for six years, served as an Assistant Principal at Texas Middle School in Texarkana for five years and is currently in his fifth year as principal at Atlanta Middle School. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas-Monticello and two master’s degrees from Texas A&M University-Texarkana. Boyce was chosen as the Region 8 Middle School Principal of the Year in May.

“It is an honor and a privilege to even be considered a finalist for Middle School Principal of the Year for the state of Texas,” Boyce said. “Being able to serve my district, serve my community and give back to a school I walked the hallways of, makes it even more special. I thank God and Atlanta ISD for allowing me to be in the position I am today.”

They will have their final interview for the top award on Saturday, Dec. 10, in Austin with the state winner to be announced soon afterward.
