XC teams qualify for state, make school history

The Atlanta High School boys and girls cross country teams qualified for the state meet by placing fourth at regionals on Oct. 25 in Arlington. This is the first time in school history that both teams will be going to state.

“I’m really proud of the kids for doing what they do,” Cross Country Coach Will Allen said. “They have fought and struggled all season, and at the end of each race at regionals, I could tell they had nothing left to give. And it paid off.” 

The boys team consists of Mathew Morin, Chris Swanson, Ethan Scott, Will Davis, Eli Riojas, Landon Moore and Andrew Allen.

Those attending state for the girls team are Lucy Ransom, Aurelia Giesler, Emma Allen, Ella Stewart, Amelia Jones, Markavia Garner and Addie Giesler.

The state meet will take place on Saturday, Nov. 5, in Round Rock. 

“They have run all year round and been through some tough 6 a.m. workouts this season,” Allen said. “I think they will remember this accomplishment for a long time, and with so many of them returning next year, it makes them hungry for more next season.”
